Khijadia is only 12 km from the Jamnagar district headquarters. This sanctuary is a true showpiece for bird observers because the unique quality of having a freshwater area formed by rain is the cause of this unique diversity in a relatively small area of 6 square kilometers.
An extraordinary ecosystem varies offering a variety of watch pleasure for bird observers. Along with seawater and freshwater habitat, there are also swampy land, mangroves, regional proximity, mud, salt pan, tributary, forest scrubs, sandy beaches, and even agricultural land bordering the area.
Together, this ecosystem provides heaven for more than 220 housing species and migration birds. Bird observers can train their binoculars and cameras on endangered species such as Dalmatian Pelican, Bill Open Asia Stork, Black-necked Stork, Darter, Black-headed Ibis, Spoonbill Eurasia, and Indian Skimmer. In lucky days, Avian fans can find these rare birds in large quantities. There is a watch, lane, and daywoat to facilitate your Avian meeting. Brief History: Just before India obtained independence, the check dam was built to store the waters of the Rupael River before entering the sea. It accidentally collects fresh water from rain and salt water, gives birth to this unique landscape. This area was declared as a place of sanctuary in 1981.
Look for: black-headed ibis, Eurasian spoonbill and Indian skimmer.
