At a distance of 1 km from the Porbandar train station, Sudama Mandir is a Hindu temple located in the center of Porbandar. Located near Kirti Mandir, this is one of the respected sites in Gujarat, and among the most visited Porbandar tourist attractions.
Sudama's temple was dedicated to Sudama who was Lord Krishna's childhood friend and was the only temple in India dedicated to him. The temple was built by Shri Ram Devji Jethwa from the Jethwa Dynasty between 1902 and 1907 CE. It is said that during the construction of this temple, the funds run out and the Portherar community must hold various drama shows to increase the necessary funds. This temple has many historic and religious interests that captivate a large number of worshipers, especially the newly married Kshatriya Rajasthani couple who visited the temple to take blessings as part of Portherar's tour package.
Located in the middle of the park, the temple architecture is simple with carved marble pillars that are open from all sides. The temple looks beautiful with Sikhara decorated with beautiful architecture and carvings. These carvings are also seen on the pillars and arches. There was a beautiful mural who described Lord Krishna washed Sudama's feet when his friend came to meet him and the statue of Krishna and Sudama embraced each other. There is a labyrinth in the temple and it is a general belief that crosses the maze helps in eliminating all sins.
