Bhujio Fort Gate, Bhuj, Gujarat
Fort Bhujia Hill, also known as Bhujiya fortress built on a hill overlooking the city of Bhuj. The fortress gets its name from the Snake God Bhujanga temple located on the hill. Historically, Bhujia's fortress was built between 1715 - 1718 CE by the head of Jadija, Rao Godaji. However, the fort was resolved by his son, Deshalji I. The fort had been established against the six main battles fighting for in 1700-1800 AD between rulers of Rajput Kutch, Muslim Raiders from Sindh, and the ruler of Mughal Gujarat. British Colonel William Coir took over the fort in 1819. The fort was under the occupation of the Indian army after Indian independence in 1947. The army left the fort in 2001.
The first big battle in Bhujia's fort was fighting for in the early part of the Deshalji I government, when Sher Buland Khan, who was Mughal Viceroy of Gujarat at that time, invaded Kutch. The Kutch army was in a precarious condition when a group of Bawas dragons opened the gate fortress to visit the NAG Temple to worship and then joined the war against Sherand Khan's army. Since that day Naga Bawas together with their leaders get a prominent place during the procession held on the Panchami Nag day every year. This is one of the main Bhuj places to visit.
There are around 200 steps to reach the top of the summit. Nature lovers and adventure fans can take a walk on the hill through the stairs enjoy the beauty of the structure and the environment. People can see the view of the city panorama, especially at sunrise and sunset.
